MEIER Property Tours: The Belnord Condominium In The Upper West Side

This month we explored three brand-new luxury residential buildings in the Upper West Side that our clients have been dying to check out. From 555 W. The Belnord was built in 1908 with Renaissance Revival architecture to attract full-time residents — as the Upper West Side was originally regarded as a weekend neighborhood back in the 1900s since most New Yorkers lived downtown to be closer to the ports for trading. As one of very few full-block residential buildings in Manhattan, this luxury condominium’s biggest highlight is the massive, serene courtyard with a water fountain and new landscaping soon to be completed. Units start at around $6 million or about $2,600 a foot. Buyers need to act quick, however, as it can take nine to 12 months to close as the landmark building is still completing conversions and just began closing on some of its units.

Depending on exposure, condos can get tons of natural sunlight or gorgeous views of the courtyard. Additional features include open layouts, Italian designer finishes, white lacquer or cerused oak cabinets, central air conditioning and more.

The location can’t be beat as The Belnord is situated between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue with excellent shopping and dining options, as well as multiple subway lines such as the 1, B, C, 2 and 3 trains. Designed by H. Hobart Weekes, the luxury building is equipped with a stunning vaulted entryway with beautiful mosaics on 86th Street. The prewar condominium also offers top-notch amenities such as a full-time doorman, concierge, fitness center, party room, children’s playroom, outdoor entertainment space in the massive courtyard, laundry room, bike room and more.
